The rider has now edged ahead in the overall standings, in what was an 'important' win for the racing legend. He has hailed the Yamaha as 'fantastic' and found he had the pace to be competitive in the wet. He chose to race on the softer front and rear compound tyres, and they worked for him. The Doctor has a points tally of 236 and now regains the lead in the championship. His team-mate Jorge Lorenzo was unable to make it on to the podium and finished in fourth, and rival, Marc Marquez crashed whilst fighting with Rossi for the win. In the end the multiple-champ had a three second
advantage over second and third place finishers, Petrucci and Dovizioso and subsequently sailed to the finishing line."The work of my team made the difference and my Yamaha was fantastic. In the warm up we found a good balance, and after the warm up it stopped raining and on the grid it was quite scary. The conditions were cold with a little bit of rain - and on a slick it could be dangerous on a fast track,"said Rossi, at the circuit."It was epic that it started to rain. I knew that I had the pace but Marc had the pace too and I could hear him, and then one moment I saw him hitting the gravel and I relaxed a bit."[In the end] I had to start to push but I didn't want to make a mistake but I felt good with the bike and knew that I had the pace. This victory is so important, and the twelve points are also so important - it's also important to have an advantage over Marquez too."
